To improve the appearance or function of the eyelid, a surgeon may perform a procedure called a blepharoplasty. This surgery can be performed on the upper lids, the lower lids, or both.
Eyelid surgery can treat:
- Loose or sagging skin of the upper eyelid that may impair vision
- Excess fatty deposits
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
In addition to making you appear older, loose, dropping, or sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your peripheral (side) vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems while also creating a younger and more alert look.
Blepharoplasty is usually done on an outpatient basis. To find out if blepharoplasty is right for you, talk to our eye surgeons at Augusta Eye MD to learn what you can realistically expect from eyelid surgery.
